In the Greek pilot, the focus is on aggregating the flexibility of household consumption and use it for two purposes: to identify and minimise imbalances between supply and demand and to offer the flexibility as balancing services at the wholesaleWholesale market covers three markets of energy trading, each representing a time window: Day-ahead market, intraday market and real-time balancing market. electricity market.

The iFLEX Assistant will enable the households to participate in the flexibility services and gain benefits through various incentives. Based on data from meters, sensors and electric car chargers installed, the assistant will learn the behaviour of the environment. This information is used to understand the consumption patterns better in balancing supply with demand and in knowing what flexibility can be offered.

Collaboration with renewable-energy power plants will also take place in the design of flexibility services since they are one of the main sources of energy imbalances. Here, the iFLEX Assistant can help mitigate the imbalance locally through incentives for self-consumption of electricity, whereby the energy produced is consumed close by.

The Greek pilot involves the cities of Athens, Thessaloniki and Volos and is managed by Heron Thermoelectric SA who produces, trades and supplies electricity in Greece.
